Reading an iPhone part number
MQ8L3HN/A — the first letter is the purchase type: M retail (new), F refurbished by Apple or a carrier, N replacement unit given under warranty, P personalised / engraved. The letters before “/A” are the sales region — HN is India, LL USA, ZP Hong Kong, AE/AB Middle East and so on.
A replacement (N) or refurbished (F) iPhone is not bad in itself — but the price should reflect it, and the seller should say so.
Frequently asked questions
Is an imported iPhone (not HN/A) a problem in India?
It works on Indian networks, but Apple usually provides iPhone warranty service only in the country of purchase, and some models sold in the USA have no physical SIM tray (eSIM only). Check warranty at checkcoverage.apple.com before you buy.
What is the difference between F and N models?
F means the phone was refurbished and resold. N means it was a replacement unit Apple gave a customer under warranty or AppleCare. Both carry the original model inside; only the purchase type differs.
Can this tool tell if an iPhone is stolen?
No website can see Apple’s or the police records. Use the official Sanchar Saathi “Know Your Mobile” check for the IMEI, make sure Activation Lock is off, and ask for the original bill.
How do I see battery health and cycle count?
Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. On iPhone 15 and newer, cycle count is in Settings → General → About. Below 80% maximum capacity the battery is due for replacement.
